Speaker Bio
Morgan was born in Brooklyn and raised within the New York area with her family of Caribbean-American heritage, primarily in South Jamaica Queens and Westbury, NY. She comes from a loving family primarily of educators who taught her the true definition of determination, helping others and standing up for what you believe in. She spent her childhood like any other New York City kid, running, “play fighting” playing “tag”, singing, dancing, listening to music and playing every sport possible within the concrete jungle. Playing basketball however quickly became her favorite pastime of all. As a child and all throughout college, she played competitively and knew that she would eventually want to work with the sport when she grew up.
As a natural leader, her strong ability to work well with others paid off throughout her education, as an alumna of Stony Brook University where she obtained both her Bachelor’s in Business Management and Master’s in Human Resources Management. Morgan has lived by the mantra “People are your biggest asset to any successful evolving venture; not widgets, gidgets or technology platforms – people. The art of navigating relationships, culture and people reciprocity are essential gems to take a thought from ideation, to creation, to revenue generation.”
Her passion for business growth and bottom line impact led her to work for various Fortune 500 companies throughout her career. Morgan has 10+ years of management experience in the Non-Profit, Banking and Consulting industries. This included working for Lehman Brothers, and the multinational professional services firm, Ernst & Young, LLC headquartered in London, England. There, she led Advisory/Consulting recruiting efforts for the New York City area. In addition, she partnered with Diversity & Inclusion for the national Financial Services Sub-Area, where she was responsible for hiring 160+ early career professionals from top ranking schools around the country.
In late 2012, Morgan expanded her craft into Sports & Entertainment, with the National Basketball Association (NBA). As the Team Lead for Early Career Development in Human Resources, she oversaw talent management, career development strategy and processes for all entry and mid-level talent for the NBA, working with universities and diversity organizations globally.
In 2016, Morgan shifted her focus exclusively to the court as the Director of Business Operations and Chief of Staff for League Operations. In her current role as Associate Vice President for League Operations, she functions as the business lead on strategic basketball initiatives geared toward growing the game globally. While having direct management of a $120M P&L business budget (including headcount, fund allocation and revenue generation for a 250-person operation), she works across business units to identify critical innovative success metrics and lay the groundwork for their implementation. She partners with basketball executives, coaches, players and referees to innovate, drive and solution for strategic business and basketball initiatives growing the game. Notable accomplishments include her contributions to the “Future of the Game” General Managers initiative, Career Crossover Program for former NBA/WNBA players and amplified operations for NBA Academies in Mexico, Africa, India and China.
